How to Write a Garage Sale Listing on SA Thrift That Gets Visitors
Two garage sales, same neighborhood, same Saturday. One has a line at 8 AM; the other gets three browsers all day. The difference is almost always the listing. Here's how to write yours.
1. Put the headline items in the title
"Garage sale Saturday" tells hunters nothing. "Tools, mid-century dresser, kids' bikes — Saturday 8–2" tells them everything. Name your two or three best categories right in the title so the right people click.
2. Photos do the heavy lifting
Listings with photos get the visits; it's that simple. You don't need staging — lay the big items out, snap three or four honest pictures in daylight, and upload them when you post your listing. One wide shot of the spread plus close-ups of the best pieces is the formula.
3. Give a price signal
You don't need to price every item, but a hint helps: "everything under $20" or "furniture priced to move." Hunters decide which sales are worth the drive based on expected value — give them a reason to choose yours.
4. Be specific on location and hours
Neighborhood plus ZIP at minimum; cross streets are better. And post real hours — "8 AM–2 PM" beats "Saturday morning." Early birds plan routes the night before using the weekend view; vague listings don't make the cut.
5. Post early in the week
Don't wait until Friday night. Post by Wednesday so your sale is sitting in the Deal Board when hunters plan their Saturday routes. Early listings get saved; saved listings get visited.
Good title, real photos, price hint, specific details, posted early. Do those five and bring extra change — you'll need it.
