Thrift Stores Open Now in San Antonio: Hours for 29 Stores, by Neighborhood

“Thrift stores near me, open now” is one of the most searched phrases in San Antonio — and one of the easiest to get wrong. Hours here are all over the map: one store opens at 7 a.m. on Thursdays and closes before lunch on Wednesdays, two beloved stores are dark every Sunday, and the downtown Goodwill closes three hours before its sister stores. So we checked all 29 stores in our San Antonio thrift store directory one by one and put the real hours in one place, by neighborhood. Hours checked October 2026 — stores can shift them on holidays, so on a holiday weekend, a quick call before a long drive is worth it.

The quick answers

Open latest: the three Texas Thrift stores, Family Thrift Center on Bandera, and Plato’s Closet on Hwy 151 all run 9 a.m.–9 p.m. or 10 a.m.–9 p.m. Monday–Saturday — the after-work shopping window is real at those five.

Open earliest: Family Thrift Center on Vance Jackson opens at 7 a.m. on Thursdays (and 7 a.m. Wednesdays — but see the catch below). Texas Thrift, Family Thrift Bandera, and Once Upon A Child all open at 9 a.m.

Open Sundays: 27 of the 29 stores. The two exceptions matter:

Closed every Sunday: both Salvation Army Family Stores (SW Military Dr and S Flores St). If Sunday is your thrift day, point the car anywhere else on this list.

That Wednesday line at Family Thrift Vance Jackson is real, not a typo: Wednesday is a short morning there, and Thursday opens at 7 a.m. Plan that store for Thursday morning or any full day, not a Wednesday afternoon.

Two north-side notes: the Goodwill at 4949 NW Loop 410 closes at 7 p.m. all week — an hour earlier than the other Goodwills — and the Accents Boutique at 717 NW Loop 410 is Goodwill’s accessories-only shop (jewelry, purses), sitting right next door to the full Blanco & Loop 410 store.

Downtown note: the Commerce St Goodwill closes at 6 p.m. every day, while every other Goodwill in this guide runs to 8 p.m. (7 on Sundays). It is the early bird of the chain — great for a lunch-hour run, wrong for an after-dinner one.

Make the trip count

Hours get you through the door; timing gets you the good stuff. New stock hits floors all week, but the deepest racks are usually the ones nobody has picked through yet — weekday mornings beat Saturday afternoons at almost every store above. And before any store run, check the SA Thrift Deal Board: garage sales and estate sales near you often beat store prices on furniture and household goods, and they are free to browse. Selling instead of buying? Post your own sale free and it shows up on the same board.
